In my last skateboarding related post I wrote about swapping a skateboarding session into your weekly workout routine in order to allow you to designate actual time in your schedule to skateboarding.
For me it was working fine, giving me time to actually head out and skate my local skatepark when it wasn't busy but maybe you want to do more than just skate, and get an actual, measurable workout while skating.
Jordan O'Meara is an Australian skateboarder who came up with the skateboard workout, a routine that challenges you to complete all the basic tricks of flatground skateboarding ten times each, gaining 1 point each time you land a trick successfully. Much like doing repetitions at the gym this standardizes your skateboard routine and gives you measurable results on how well you're going with landing your tricks.
In the video below I run through Jordan's Skateboard Workout giving a shout out to some skateboarding YouTube channels as I go. As you'll see Jordan's workout is probably just right for me as I need a lot of practice on most of these tricks.
For more advanced skaters who could rattle off perfect tens for most of this routine there's no reason why you couldn't switch out some of the tricks for harder ones you're working on. Though I'd recommend keeping a few easier tricks in the earlier part of the routine as warm up tricks.
So you may be wondering can you lose weight skateboarding? (If that's your goal beyond just general fitness). Roughly six months after Jordan started purposely skating to help him lose weight, he recorded a video talking about how he did actually lose weight and what factors he felt contributed to his success. Watch below.
If there's one important take away from Jordan's video, it's that what you eat really does make a difference more than how much you exercise. Which is not to say exercise doesn't help you lose weight, it's just that you need to back it up with eating better food to really see results.
