Review: Titans, Season One, Netflix/WBTV Original Series *Minor Spoilers*

When I saw the first trailers for the Netflix/WBTV original series  Titans my expectations were set extremely low. Granted my point of reference was the recent Teen Titans Go animated series (and movie), which I've seen a few episodes, and don't like at all. To be fair though, that show is definitely not targeted at me. Anyhow the Titan trailer didn't do enough to hook me in and Robin's 'F*ck Batman' quote toward the end had my eyes rolling with 'here we go again with a whiney, entitled Robin like the Chris O'donnell version in the 1990's movies. However, from the very first episode I was pleasantly surprised with the story and ideas presented, and was hooked, to the point of binge watching several episodes in a row if I had time. We learn Dick Grayson is trying to retire from being Robin and has moved to Detroit, where he's working as a detective for the Detroit PD. Full disclosure, I've been wanting to see a new take on a live a

Why 'We Believe: The Best Men Can Be | Gillette (Short Film)' Misses the Mark

Still from 'We Believe' Gillette Short Film. If you're one of the few people who haven't at least heard about Gillette's short film, We Believe: The Best Men Can Be then take a moment to watch their video below. It seems like it is an earnest attempt to address undesirable male behaviour and attitudes that have become branded with the unhelpful term 'Toxic Masculinity' but for me, and a lot of people, it just missed the mark. At this point, the real success of the film, despite the Youtube dislike ratio of approximately 2:1 is the increased brand awareness for Gillette - and I guess the 1 million a year for the next three years they will be donating to programs supporting men of positive action (but they could have done that anyway with no fanfare). I get what Gillette were going for here by showing examples of past/current behaviour/attitudes in communities, business, and media that has brought about terms like 'toxic masculinity' and the

Cancer Killing Nanobots - Netflix Series, 'Travelers' Technology in Real Life

Cancer killing Nanobot Visualization. I'm a fan of the Netflix series Travelers , a show about time traveler teams from the future coming back to our time by inhabiting the bodies and lives of people who were on the brink of an unnatural death (accident victims etc.). The premise being these teams are on a mission to change an apocalyptic future. It's a great show, well worth your time. One feature of the show is nanite technology , which is used to medically repair the body by injecting 'nanites' into the bloodstream of the patient. The result is a more rapid recovery with nanites seemingly able to repair all kinds of medical conditions from brain injuries, diseases, to gunshot wounds. Recently, Cold Fusion , a technology, thought, and ideas, based Youtube channel released a video called Cancer Killing Nanobots (New Research) , which I've embeded below. As you'll see it covers much of the latest medical breakthroughs in relation to Nanobots to the poi

Do You Work For Yourself? Don't Be a Bad Boss!

Working for yourself can be stressful, especially if you're still figuring things out, and particularly if your goal is to earn a full time living through self employment. The pressure to be successful is real and as a result you could be causing yourself unnecessary stress by becoming a bad boss. Working for yourself it is important to be disciplined, making sure you're always progressing, but this can lead to expecting too much of yourself, which manifests as stress and a feeling of being overwhelmed. If you're anything like me, you'll have a 'To do' list that is impossibly long with tasks you may have been going to do for years. (My task list is an app with more than 140 entries spanning years, and I'm still adding to it - and ticking things off every now and then too). The thing to remember is YOU WORK FOR YOURSELF. If you're beating yourself up over not getting things done, not working hard enough, or just not meeting your own expectations o

Movie Review: Aquaman (2018) *Spoiler Free*

I'm not sure what I was expecting from Aquaman though I had heard quotes from director James Wan that his version of the hero would be much more engaging than the brief glimpses we got in Batman V Superman and Justice League. Whilst the film is far from perfect I didn't expect Aquaman to be so much fun, visually interesting, and be packed full of so much world building that it's hard to believe the entire story takes place on Earth. Apart from some of the obvious film inspirations like Indiana Jones , and Romancing the Stone some scenes reminded me very much of Blade Runner in the way we are shown the vastness of the Atlantean city. Although we get Aquaman's origin story this film is not strictly an origin movie. It's more of a side story to the main plot of Arthur Curry's (a.k.a. Aquaman) journey to becoming leader of the seven seas and thus preventing a war with the surface humans. Casting Jason Momoa as Arthur/Aquaman, it is really showcased here
