The Three Wise Color Monkeys. 40x50cm, acrylics on canvas. |
The final stage, if you want to define it as a separate stage, was deciding if any of the final details needed to be completed in black to help draw your eye to them. In this case I filled in each monkey's pupils and nostrils in black - and nothing else.
Follow that by painting in any final white highlights - which help to define smaller details and generally help make the characters 'pop' a little more out of the background.
Once those were done, I signed the work, removed my masking tape border and declared the painting finished!
Whilst I'm pleased with the end result, I'm happy to finally be done. The process was starting to really drag a little for me. Next painting I'm going to try to aim to complete more each session in order to, hopefully, finish the work over a shorter time period.
Watch the video below to see how the finals stages panned out and for more information about my creative process.

ReplyDeleteThanks Johnny. I'm not sure what my next painting will be just yet but I do plan to start a new one very soon. :-)
