Learning to Fly a Pink JJRC H37 ELFIE Drone, and Longboarding

When I first saw the online ads for the JJRC H37 ELFIE Foldable Mini RC Selfie Drone they made it look so easy to fly and film dynamic footage of you and your friends.

My very first flight was indoors. This thing took off, careered out of control and smashed into the wall. The same thing would keep happening time after time. Take off, completely fine. Then the drone realizes it's flying, freaks out and promptly chooses some random direction to fly into the ground.

I shelved it for several months because I just couldn't fly it, at all.

Recently I decided to give it another try, initially with similar results but, as I took a little more time to study the wafer thin manual, I've gradually gotten to learn how the controls work.

I'm now at the point where I can at least keep the drone under some degree of control. Not yet good enough to frame the camera for decent video footage though (as you'll see in the video below).

Before taking my drone out for a spin, as I mention in the video, that was also the first time I'd taken my Longboard out for a real ride with a purpose. I wanted to see if I could find a good location to fly my drone nearer than the field where I ended up.

I rode for a good hour or so around my town. If there was any doubt left about how good a longboard is for just cruising around, it's gone now. So much better than riding on a regular skateboard deck.

I was able to skate much further, over rougher terrain, and was nowhere near as puffed as I would have been riding the same distance on my Popsicle board.

Honestly, regular boards are great but if you do more commuting than tricks, a longboard is a much better option.

TV Series Review: Velma (2023-2024) No Spoilers

A s a kid, Scooby Doo cartoons were something I used to watch fairly regularly. I wasn't a diehard fan but it was one of the better, of the many, cartoons I used to watch. Movie Review: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) No Spoilers

I f you're like me and didn't go to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in theatres you made the right choice. For context, I loved the first Aquaman movie . It's one of my favorites from the Snyder/DCEU era. It is a relatively well made adventure story, with some fantastic world building, amazing visuals, and included some commentary on environmental issues as well. Despite having, mostly the same creative team, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom comes across as a film that couldn't decide what it wanted to be, in terms of a sequel. On the one hand it wants to showcase the cool, fun, wisecracking, but bad ass, rock'n'roll version of Aquaman (Jason Momoa) with another rollicking adventure. TV Series Review: The Office - Australia (Prime Video) (2024) No Spoilers

W hile I'm a late comer fan of The Office, only watching after the original and USA versions were both available on streaming services, I did watch them in the order of release i.e. I watched the U.K. version first. It is even further beyond my belief that Trump won, without question.
